IVF Step 3: Egg Maturation

Normally after ten to fourteen days of stimulation injections, the follicles should be large enough for ovum retrieval (16-18 mm diameter).

A trigger injection of Pregnyl, Ovitrelle, Buserelin or Gonasi will be given approximately 36 hours prior to the egg retrieval to encourage final maturation of the eggs within the follicles.  This injection works in the same way as the natural hormone released from the pituitary to trigger ovulation, however we will be collecting the eggs before ovulation occurs.
