Sperm Donation
Become a Sperm Donor
Your Donation Could Change Lives Forever. Every donation has the potential to give hope, create families and make parenthood possible for people who need your help.
At Hull & East Riding Fertility, our sperm donors come from all walks of life. There is no “typical” donor—what they share is a genuine desire to help others experience the joy of becoming parents.
Whether you are considering donating for altruistic reasons or through our Sperm Sharing Programme, our experienced fertility team will support you throughout every step of your journey.
Become a Sperm Donor
You may be eligible to become a sperm donor if you:
✓ Are between 18 and 45 years of age
✓ Are generally fit and healthy
✓ Are willing to undergo fertility, infectious disease and genetic screening
✓ Can commit to providing at least 10 semen samples over approximately 10 weeks
✓ Are happy for us, with your consent, to obtain relevant medical information from your GP
Every potential donor is different. During your assessment, we will discuss your medical and family history to ensure donation is safe for both you and any future children conceived from your donation.
The complete donor journey can take between 8-12 months, as careful screening, counselling and mandatory storage periods are required to ensure the highest standards of safety and care.
Why Your Donation Matters
Your donation could make parenthood possible for people who cannot conceive without donor sperm, including:
- Couples experiencing male infertility
- Individuals wishing to avoid passing on an inherited genetic condition
- Men who have become infertile following cancer treatment or surgery
- Single women wishing to start a family
- Female same-sex couples
For many recipients, donor sperm represents their only opportunity to have a biological family.
Every donation has the potential to change lives for generations to come.

- Donation
Provide a minimum of 10 semen samples over approximately 10 weeks at our Hull clinic.
- Help Create Families
Your donation could help up to 10 families achieve their dream of becoming parents.
Your Legal Position
Donating sperm does not make you the legal parent of any child born from your donation.
You will have no legal, financial or parental responsibility for any child created using your sperm. The recipient individual or couple will be the child’s legal parents, and your name will not appear on the birth certificate.
Since April 2005, UK law has allowed donor-conceived people to request identifying information about their donor once they reach the age of 18. Before donating, you’ll receive counselling and comprehensive information so you can make a fully informed decision.
Expenses & Sperm Sharing
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) does not allow sperm donors to be paid for donating.
However, Hull & East Riding Fertility can reimburse donors for reasonable expenses of up to £45 per clinic visit, in line with HFEA guidance.
If you are undergoing fertility treatment yourself, you may also be eligible for our Sperm Sharing Programme, where your donation can help reduce the cost of your treatment. Our team will be happy to discuss whether this option is suitable for you.
