Surrogacy
A surrogacy arrangement is when a woman carries and gives birth to a child with the intention that the child will be parented by another couple.
Straight surrogacy is when the surrogate uses her own eggs fertilised with the intended father’s sperm. Artificial insemination is usually employed without the involvement of an IVF Unit. IVF or Host or Gestational surrogacy is when the surrogate carries the intended parents’ child as a result of IVF, usually using the intended parents’ egg and sperm.
Couples requesting treatment via a surrogacy arrangement should seek their own legal advice from the outset.
