Due to the potential impact that the Corona Virus pandemic may have on patients storing gametes (eggs/sperm) or embryos, the HFEA have released new Coronavirus Regulations which came into effect on 1st July 2020. The storage periods of 10 years which gametes or embryos can be stored for can be extended to 12 years, but only in certain circumstances, providing certain criteria are met, and a specific consent form is completed. This will not be automatically applied unless these terms are in place.

The Embryology team will write to you on the anniversary of your storage as usual.  If the above change is applicable to your circumstance, they will provide this extension as an option, alongside more information and the option of counselling. However, in the mean time if you believe that you are eligible for storage extension from 10 years to 12 years or would like to know more information then please do not hesitate to contact the IVF Unit on 01482 382648.
